Looking to the future
Quote from Steve on November 9, 2024, 10:26 amThirty years ago there was an estimated 30-40 million Internet users world wide. There wasn’t a lot of us. Most of us were accessing the Internet from third party services like AOL, Compuserve or Prodigy. They offered a broad range of networked services, where one could download software, play games, join forums, and even access the World Wide Web.
I could see how this would be beneficial for advertisers and marketers, to reach large audiences inexpensively. I was hearing this relatively new frontier was about to explode, and I was determined that I should be part of it.
My Internet browser named Mosaic, was used to navigate what appeared to be a deep void. It seemed like it took forever to download images. My computer was a 386 with 300 megabytes of RAM running Windows 3.11. I was fascinated by the web! I would have to see if I could learn how to put information online. I started looking for information to see how these pages and images could be written so they would by the Mosiac web browser.
It was easy to see one could start a business to sell things online. I was already working on a novel. However, it paled in comparison to this new technology. I would become a web developer.
The year after this Windows ‘95 was released. The trickle of people accessing the Internet, turned into a quick moving brook.
